Our Story

We've been providing incredible wedding services since before the turn of the century  In 2024, we moved operations from our home state of Wisconsin to the Florida Panhandle. Our founder Chris Truitt got his start in the business without ever intending to.  As a techie and sound man, he agreed to DJ a family member's wedding.  Guests at that wedding asked if he'd DJ theirs, and it expanded from there.  Chris' technical expertise, wedding experience, and customer service attitude helped propel the business to one of the leading DJ companies in the area and Edge DJ was born.

A few years after that, one of his DJ clients asked if he knew of any unconventional officiants; they wanted a fun and wacky ceremony but couldn't find an officiant to provide it.  Chris, familiar with weddings and being no stranger to the public speaking and wedding spotlight, found out he could become ordained by one of the internet churches, give the clients the ceremony they wanted, and legally be able to sign the marriage license.  That wedding went perfectly, and, just like his DJ business, couples in attendance reached out to Chris to officiate their ceremony, and the officiant side of the business took off.  He changed the name from Edge DJ to You Had Me At I Do to better reflect the full services offered.

During the past 25 years, Chris hired multiple DJs and Officiants and grew the business to be a powerhouse in the indusrty.  In 2024, he decided it was time to pare things back, hang up his headphones, partially retire from the business by only doing ceremonies, and move to the Florida Panhandle.  Lets be honest - 25 years of drunk guests demanding the YMCA and 15 hour Saturday worksdays gets to be a bit much.  He absolutely lvoes officiating, however, and just couldn't give it up.

Now focusing solely on ceremonies, Chris' 25 years in the business have given us the knowledge, skills, and experience to ensure that your wedding ceremony is THE wedding ceremony everyone will be talking about.  You'll be able to relax and enjoy yourself, knowing that the success of your ceremony is in the hands of experts.  

And yes, our name is ABSOLUTELY a reference to that famous line from Jerry Maguire - who didn't fall in love with that magical movie moment? That's what everyone's wedding should be about! No matter what happens during the ceremony and no matter what happens during the reception, only that magical moment matters - you truly had each other at 'I Do'.
