Every once in a while I chat with couples who are planning a wedding with a small (under 100) guest list and I tell them all the same thing; smaller weddings can actually be better.
The biggest benefit of a small wedding, obviously, is the lower price tag. Another benefit, though, is more quality time with your guests. Couples feel pressured to sit and chat with every guest and rightfully so – they’re there to see the couple! A smaller guest list means fewer people to visit with which means more quality time with each guest.
Smaller weddings also mean less stress. The guests are typically closer family and friends with their ‘plus ones’. It feels more like reunion than a production and there’s no pressure to impress anyone.
The bottom line? Don’t feel like you have to invite a ton of people to your wedding. It’s perfectly fine to only invite a few dozen of your family and closest friends. Nobody will judge you for doing this – I promise!
They key, though, is to choose a venue that is sized appropriately. Renting a banquet hall or barn that seats 300 for your 80 person guest list will feel funny. Instead, find a smaller venue like one of the local wineries or breweries. You’ll have a great time!
