It’s common for the best man and maid of honor to do their speeches after dinner. This, however, can be problematic. First, they won’t be able to enjoy dinner – they’ll be so nervous about their speeches that they’ll worry the entire time they’re eating. Second, this worry may lead to them enjoying a little too much ‘liquid courage’. Speeches and copious amounts of alcohol don’t mix. Oh the stories we could tell…including the speech where the inebriated MOH (and groom’s twin sister) started her rambling ad lib speech with “the groom and I came through the same vagina.”
Our suggestion? Do the Father of the Bride greeting/welcome before dinner. Then let your caterer serve the salads. After the head table is done eating the salads, have your BM and MOH do their speeches along with the two of you (if you choose to speak). Then, it’s on to dinner with no pressure and no worries!
